Musicians, #BassPlayers and friends often ask what I'm listening to. So I've decided to make a playlist of what I'm currently checking out (updated as needed). The Who, powered by the thunderous bass of John Entwistle is on full display with this 1971 release. The song "My Generation" (which was originally released in 1965), features the first-ever recorded electric bass solo in rock music. The Who have many great albums, but "Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy" is a good compilation overview, especially of the first decade of their career.
Released in 1986, this Grammy Award-winning "Album Of The Year" and "Record Of The Year" are a staple in the world of brilliant songwriting, coupled with incredible musicianship. Bassist Bakithi Kumalo helped to shape the overall signature sound of the album with his lyrical fretless and fretted bass.
